Cannabis News3 Takeaways from our October PubTalk: What Will Cannabis Legalization Mean for Oregon Business?

Whether or not you support cannabis legalization, there is no denying that if passed, it will have a significant impact on Oregon’s economy and business community. But how?

At our October PubTalk, our expert panel discussed what opportunities exist in the business market that are both directly and indirectly linked to cannabis, the differences and parallels between legalization in Oregon versus other states, and what the future looks like for cannabis in Oregon.

Here are three key takeaways:

  1. Legalization opens up business opportunities directly related to cannabis, but we can’t overlook the surrounding support sector — real estate, legal services, financial services, security services, etc.
  2. Oregon has an opportunity to legalize cannabis in a more effective way than Washington, with a different tax and regulatory structure that could open up more business opportunities and have a greater economic impact.
  3. The fact that cannabis is not legalized at the federal level will certainly create business challenges. The key is to understand what they are and prepare for them.

Moderated by Dave Kopilak from Emerge Law Group, the panel featured Amy Margolis from Emerge Law Group, Brian Budz from New Vansterdam, and Norris Monson from Oregon Cannabis Industry Association.
