Inspiration & AdviceOur Mixtape for the Entrepreneur

What’s your anthem? Everyone has their list of songs they personally identify with, songs that seem to speak specifically to them. And just like one’s love life, the life of an entrepreneur has its highs and lows—moments of elation, despair, isolation, and hope.

We’ve asked our members which songs best reflect their own entrepreneurial journeys. At a time of year when beaches beckon, here’s a playlist you can take on the road to keep you motivated and inspired.

“I Won’t Back Down” – Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

“The best entrepreneurial advice that I’ve received is that you have to ‘be persistent, be persistent, be persistent!'” – Summer Kramer, Founder of SummerSkin

“Heroes in a Half Shell” – Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

“We’re green (kale) and are fighting to keep the world safe from GMOs, pesticides, etc. Ha!” – Sarah Pool, Co-Founder of Pacific NW Kale Chips

“Life is a Highway” – Tom Cochrane

“By 8 a.m., my whole day has changed from what is on my calendar. I look forward to the unknown and the opportunity to have small successes throughout the day. I never forget that I live my life to make one smile at a time.” – Chris Corrado, Co-Founder of Lumenplay

“Eye of the Tiger” – Survivor

“Yes, there’s definitely air boxing involved.” – Molly Lindquist, Founder of Consano

“Do you Hear the People Sing?” – Les Miserables

“I’ve always identified with Jean Valjean’s character… what a strong, dedicated, honest, and mission-driven individual. (I even considered getting a “24601” tattoo at one point.)” – Tyson Gillard, Co-Founder of The Outdoor Project

“Rock You Like a Hurricane” – Scorpions

“Don’t go listen to the lyrics because you’ll get the totally wrong impression! However, my business partner Celeste calls me ‘Hurricane Gina’ when I’m on a roll with a project or goal. Hop outta the way or come along for the ride.” – Gina Morris, Manager of BridgeLab

“Oh What a Feeling” – Flashdance

“Maybe it’s because I just watched The Internship but I can’t seem to get that crappy (sorry Irene Cara) song out of my head now.” – Tod Guenther, CEO of bunnyjuice

“Winds of Change” – Scorpions

“The song is about listening to the winds of change and looking for opportunities for growth. To me, it is my anthem on my own journey to becoming an entrepreneur.” – Heidi Lovig, Founder of Heidi Ho

Take it to the Limit – The Eagles

“[You have to] enjoy the process and wins as you move towards the end goal.” – Ken Levy, Co-Founder of 4-Tell
