OEN NewsYour Support in Action: CarBar

Did you know that your donation supports OEN programming that strengthens Oregon’s economy and helps local entrepreneurs build successful businesses?

Oregon Entrepreneurs Network is participating in Giving Tuesday this year and we ask that you consider making a contribution so we can continue breaking down the barriers to people, programs, and capital that face entrepreneurs in our region—entrepreneurs like CarBar.

Your Support in Action

In 2015, Natasha Torres and her wife Himalaya Rao moved from the east coast to Oregon. After hosting events as a nice way to catch up with friends after school, the two soon realized that they could bring a new face to how people party.

Natasha and Himalaya recently received a scholarship from OEN to attend OEN’s Startup Series where they learned how to launch a business while connecting with mentors and fellow entrepreneurs they otherwise would not have had access to. With the education and connections they gained from the Startup series, Natasha and Himalaya took CarBar from concept to launch in 8 months.

Natasha Torres and Himalaya Rao, Founders of CarBar. CarBar is a marketing service that showcases products from local beverage brewers—beer, wine, cider, Kombucha, and probiotic juices—to new market segments through pop-up events.

“It would not have been possible to move to a new state, without any network, have an idea, and launch within a year without the resources we’ve gained from the Startup Series. This program has changed the trajectory of our lives. Scholarships like these help break barriers. We are two women of color in the LGBTQ community that have come from out of state and now we have a business,” said Natasha from the stage at the 2018 OEN Awards. “We sincerely thank donors like you. Your contribution to OEN creates valuable opportunities for the inclusion of diversity within entrepreneurship and we thank you.”

Himalaya added, “I truly believe that without the OEN Startup Series we would not have launched in as quick a timeframe as we did. It would have taken us years to slowly cultivate that business network.”

This #GivingTuesday, we hope you’ll choose to support local entrepreneurs like CarBar by supporting the Oregon Entrepreneurs Network.
