OEN's Angel Oregon 2017

OEN’s Angel Oregon Program is a chance for entrepreneurs to hone their pitch and business plan and connect to mentors, resources, and funding opportunities.

In 2017, we’ll be offering entrepreneurs a chance to compete in our Early Stage or Concept Stage categories. The Early Stage winner will receive an investment of over $200,000; the Concept Stage winner will receive a package of goods and services (historically valued at $20,000).

Applicants to either category may also be considered for loans ranging from $25,000 – $250,000 through Business Oregon’s Small Business Expansion Program.

Additionally, women and minority entrepreneurs may be considered for cash awards (not loans, not equity!) from the Portland Development Commission of $10,000 at the Concept Stage level or a $15,000 cash award at the Early Stage level.

Our experience with Angel Oregon was extremely rewarding. Every step along the way helped make Yellow Scope a stronger business. Our due diligence team was composed of seasoned experts in finance, marketing, supply chain and logistics. Their advice and support helped us refine and streamline our business plan. Perhaps even more importantly, their support strengthened our confidence that we can do this!”

Marcie Colledge and Kelly McCollum, Yellow Scope

Concept Stage Category

Companies that apply in our Concept Stage category compete for a package of goods and services. In 2016, the first-place prize package included over $20,000 worth of office space, executive coaching services, strategic forecasting consulting, accounting services, and legal services.

Companies participating in the concept stage competition typically:

  • Have a great idea, and are close to “proof of concept”
  • Are in the process of testing their product in the market
  • Have little if any revenue – yet

Early Stage Category

Companies that apply in our Early Stage category get a chance to compete for an investment award, historically $200,000 – $300,000, while receiving valuable coaching from angel investors and serial entrepreneurs.

Companies participating in the early stage competition typically:

  • Have a proven concept and a complete business plan developed
  • Product or service is developed; may have had betas or limited rollout
  • Have generated initial revenues and are ready for market expansion
