Oregon needs entrepreneurs. And entrepreneurs need OEN.
The United States is a country of entrepreneurs. One of every ten workers in America starts their own business; in England only one of every 33 does so, and in Japan only one of every 100. These people and the small companies they create account for the vast majority of US employment — over 99% — and generate trillions of dollars in annual revenue.
Among the states, Oregon is particularly self-reliant. While The State New Economy Index, a Progressive Policy Institute project measuring the country’s economic health in the modern economy, found that Oregon ranks high in the number of its jobs tied to foreign export (8), it also ranks low in the amount of foreign investment in companies (35). In order to generate the economic might necessary to bridge this gap and compete globally, Oregon has by necessity become a state economy driven by start-up activity: Only one state in the US claims more gazelle-created jobs than Oregon.
In other words, there are few states more entrepreneurial than Oregon. And no organization does more for entrepreneurship in Oregon than OEN.
