In the annals of OEN and the spirit of entrepreneurship, these honchos have been hell on wheels.

How would you define what it is to be an entrepreneur?

An entrepreneur is someone possessed to accomplish a specific business or social goal. They relentlessly pursue the goal in spite of all odds and adversity.

How did you get started as an entrepreneur? What in life prepared you most?

As a middle child I had to be responsible for my own being from an early age. I always understood what I needed to know and acquired that knowledge. This is not a quest for perfection; few if any entrepreneurs are straight “A” students. Entrepreneurs hire the dean’s list students!

What is your philosophy and motivation as an entrepreneur?

Seek forgiveness not permission.

Given the OEN Entrepreneur Awards "rebel" or "renegade" theme, describe how you faced up to and overcame the challenges you faced as an entrepreneur? Can you provide examples?

The greatest challenges have been with people, particularly investors and board members. To move to the next level of company performance I needed to change board composition. This was done by convincing the specific board member that it was his idea to move on.

What advice do you have for to someone who wants to be an entrepreneur?

Ask yourself if you are a rule breaker. If you are, then you might have entrepreneurial tendencies. However, being an entrepreneur is not something which one “achieves” . Rather it is a deep personal belief. You either are or are not an entrepreneur and entrepreneurial activities start at a very young age.
