The Finance & Operations section is the first of three modules of the Executive Series for the winter/spring session of 2008.
This six-week course will prepare entrepreneurs to address key finance and operations functions within their own companies. Attendees will benefit from a complete discussions and prepared material covering operations, financial statements, financial modeling and forecasting, valuation, fund-raising preparation, organization/capitalization tables and deal structure and fund-raising execution.
The dates for the Finance & Operations module are as follows:
February 5, 12, 19, 26 and March 4, 11. Session 1 – Operations
Presenter: Mike Temple, COO/CFO (also known as “The Real Deal”)Mike will walk through the key aspects of operations and prepare them for how operations drives the numbers.
Session 2 – Financial Statements
Presenter: Jared Holum, Shareholder, Perkins & Company, CPAsJared will walk through the financial statements that report the numbers historically and provide a report card for where the company has been and where it is today.
Session 3 – Financial Modeling/Forecasting
Presenter: Steve Babcock, Contract CFOSteve will walk through the various tools and modeling for taking historical financial information and using that to forecast/project using various assumptions to get a sense for where the organization might be going under different scenarios.
Session 4 - Valuation
Presenter: Clare Kenny Tureck, CFOClare will walk through the process of understanding valuation methodologies and the key inputs, assumptions, and other considerations necessary when attempting to quantify the value of a business or its assets.
Session 5 - Fund-Raising Preparation -- Form of Organization/Capitalization Tables/Deal Structure
Presenter: Todd Bauman, Attorney, Stoel RivesTodd will walk through the options for form of organization the assets will reside in, capitalization tables for tracking who owns the assets, and key aspects to consider in structuring a deal.
Session 6 - Fund-Raising Execution – The Process/Strategy/Know Your Audience/Know Your Exit
Presenter: Jan Heald Robinson, CFOAttendees will have been exposed to:
- Key operational considerations
- Where the results of operations end up on the scorecard – i.e. financials
- How those results might look in the future – forecasting
- How the results translate to value
- How best to prepare for structuring the deal to capture those results
Jan will wrap things up by walking through the key elements of the fund-raising process and how understanding their business and knowing their audience will drive the strategy for successfully communicating their value to investors.
