OEN's Angel Oregon 2010 Competition Overview

OEN is no longer accepting applications for companies to present at OEN's Angel Oregon 2010.  Please contact the OEN office at 503-222-2270 or admin@oen.org if you have any questions.

OEN's Angel Oregon is the nation’s premier angel investment prize conference. It is the chance entrepreneurs are looking for to get in front of accredited angel investors. This must-attend event gives presenting companies excellent visibility and a chance to win a substantial prize by bringing together Oregon and SW Washington’s brightest entrepreneurial talent with real-world, accredited angel investors.

This year to expand the competition playing field and to maximize exposure for all applying companies, we’ve added a new prize for seed-stage companies. Applicants of OEN’s Angel Oregon will receive education and support to present their best foot forward throughout the process.

The top six launch-stage companies who apply, including the OEN Seed Oregon PubTalk winner, as well as the top seed-stage companies, will present at the OEN's Angel Oregon conference on Friday, March 5th at the Nines Hotel.

At the conference a final vote of the OEN Angel Oregon 2010 LLC investors will take place. Two investment prizes will be awarded, a grand prize for launch-stage companies and a smaller prize for seed-stage companies. Entrepreneurs may select the category in which they wish to compete (Competition for the launch prize will be more rigorous).

If the 2010 OEN Angel Oregon hits its target investor recruitment goal, the investment prize money will break down as follows:

* Total purse of $225K*
* Launch Prize: $200K*
* Seed Prize: $25K*

(* Anticipated investment prize)

How do I determine the stage of my company?

Determining the stage of your company is an important step because it determines the prize for which your company will be eligible to receive.  Companies may be in any industry, must be located in Oregon or SW Washington.

Launch-stage companies are in their early-stage of growth. Companies should have strong growth and profit potential, and a clear opportunity for participating investors to realize a superior return on their investment (e.g., a 10X return over 5 years). Companies should be seeking capital in the range of $250,000 to $2,500,000. If you do not meet these criteria, you may be a seed-stage company.  The application fee (which includes one registration to the event) for Launch-stage companies is $300.

Seed-stage companies - A seed company applicant is in early stages of development. A clear idea of the business concept is formulated with some progress on the business model and investment opportunity. It is understood that the product and plan may not be complete, although the more progress the better. There are founders in place with a clear division of roles and responsibilities. Some progress should have been made on understanding target market and the competitive environment, with a preliminary set of marketing and sales strategies outlined. Financials should include estimated revenue projections with supporting assumptions. Seed-stage applicants should need small amounts of capital ($25,000 - 50,000) to reach a significant milestone that will attract interest from investors in a subsequent funding round. The application fee and one registration to the event for Seed-stage companies is $198.
