Why we collect personal information
OEN collects two types of information: personal data such as zip code, email address and demographic information from its members; and aggregated data such as information about traffic patterns from visitors at oen.org (for example, how many users log on to oen.org on a daily basis). We use your personal information to keep you up to date on the latest event announcements and other information we think you’d like to hear about. We send you this information via both electronic and direct mail. We use aggregated data to help manage your experience on our web site and to help us create a more useful web experience for visitors to oen.org.
When we disclose personal information
How we protect your personal information
OEN safeguards the security of the data you send us with physical, electronic, and managerial procedures. We urge you to take every precaution to protect your personal data when you are on the Internet. Change your passwords often, use a combination of letters and numbers, and make sure you use a secure browser.
OEN uses industry-standard Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption on all web pages where personal information is required. To pay for events or membership in OEN on this site, you must use an SSL-enabled browser such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, or Safari. This protects the confidentiality of your personal and credit card information while it is transmitted over the Internet.
Access to your personal information
You always have access to the information we track about you. To review and update your personal contact information, simply click My Account under the Members Only menu. If you would like to review other personal information that OEN may have about you, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
What are cookies?
A cookie is a very small text document, which often includes an anonymous unique identifier. Any web site can send its own cookie to your browser if your browser’s preferences allow it; however, to protect your privacy, your browser only permits a site to access the cookies it has already sent to you, not those sent to you by other sites. When you visit the OEN on the web, our site asks your computer for permission to store this file in a part of your hard drive specifically designated for cookies.
How do we use information we collect from cookies?
As you navigate the OEN site, the site uses its cookies to differentiate you from other visitors so your personal information is only available to you. Cookies, in conjunction with our Web server’s log files, allow us to calculate the aggregate number of people visiting our site and which parts of the site are most popular. This helps us gather feedback in order to constantly improve our site and better serve our customers. Cookies do not allow us to gather any personal information about you and we do not generally store any personal information that you provided to us in your cookies.
Our organization’s commitment to privacy
To make sure your personal information remains confidential, we communicate these privacy guidelines to every OEN employee.
OEN’s website contains links to other sites. OEN does not share your personal information with those websites and is not responsible for their privacy practices. We encourage you to learn about the privacy policies of those companies.
If we are going to use your personal information differently from that stated at the time of collection, we will try to contact you via email using the most recent information we have. If you have not given us permission to communicate with you, you will not be contacted, nor will we use your personal information in a new manner.
